Monty’s Good Burger in Riverside

From Impossible to Beyond, vegans have many a option in the good burger department.

Monty’s Good Burger located in the Riverside Food Lab uses Impossible patties, my favorite beef patty alternative, in their burgers. Out of all the vegan burger places I’ve tried so far, I really think Monty’s deserves the “vegan In-N-Out” title that I’ve seen it called online (Yes, Meat-eaters, I still remember what In-N-Out tastes like).

The most obvious reason Monty’s reminds me of In-N-Out is the branding. Monty’s, like In-N-Out once was, is exclusive to SoCal (LA and Riverside), carries its own merch, and has a simple menu that highlights burgers and fries.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD?

Cute doggie bag, two single-patty burgers, strawberry milkshake.

Monty’s offers a single or double patty option (like In-N-Out) with Follow Your Heart cheese, house spread, lettuce, tomato, house pickles, and grilled onions. Next, you get a choice of shoestring fries or tater tots, a choice of dipping sauce (sriracha aioli, ranch, house spread, onion aioli, and habanero), and a drink (shakes and floats, lemonade, ice tea, Arnold Palmer, or craft soda).

My boyfriend and I ordered two single-patty burgers sans cheese. The burgers were hearty, flavorful and juicy, and I can’t wait to go back. The house pickles tasted somewhere between a pickle and cucumber, adding freshness and crunch to the burger. A worthy match to the single burger at In-N-Out, in my not-so-unpopular opinion.

We ordered shoestring fries, and they were as good as fries get (I’m a fry-fiend. It’s difficult for me to not love a fry.), but the sauce was the star of the show. We had the onion aioli dipping sauce, which is incredibly flavorful (Seriously, don’t dunk your whole fry in on your first bite, you only need a dab) and it made me look forward to trying the other sauces.

Lastly, we ordered a photo-worthy strawberry milkshake. The milkshake had a strawberry sauce drizzle throughout and was topped with whipped cream (Yay vegan whip! Look and learn, Starbucks), birthday sprinkles, and a strawberry. I’m picky with vegan milkshakes (I think most almond milk-based milkshakes taste funny) and thought the Monty’s milkshake was thick, creamy, and delightful.

Overall, I think Monty’s Good Burger will please vegans and non-vegans alike but, especially if you’re vegan/plant-based and missing In-N-Out, I think Monty’s is worth a visit!
