Plant Power: Plant-Based Fast-Food in Redlands and Riverside

I’m going to be honest: No matter when you’re reading this, I’m probably eating Plant Power.

Nothing compares to a good fast-food burger and fries. Quick, hot, and reliable. No effort required on my part, and cheaper than your average dine-in vegan restaurant.

If you’re plant-based, you’ve probably been told that you don’t eat real food. That all you must eat is salads and how could that be fulfilling. Yet, you’ve probably also heard the opposite. When caught indulging on vegan junk food, you’ve probably heard: I thought vegans were supposed to be healthy?

Well, we vegans and plant-based peoples can be indulgent, healthy, and sustainable.

How can we be indulgent and healthy, and indulgent and sustainable?

Behold: Plant Power, Fast-Food of the Future.

Plant Power offers all of the traditional American fast-food that typically comes to mind (Think burgers, fries, and a coke) while being both healthier and more sustainable than your average fast-food place.

WHAT DO I MEAN BY HEALTHIER?

Aside from plant-based food being healthier in general, Plant Power claims:

  • a menu entirely free of cholesterol, artificial flavors, hydrogenated oil, trans fat, and high-fructose corn syrup

  • fries made with just potatoes, oil, and salt

  • organic soda made with organic cane juice and natural flavors

  • house sauces made fresh daily with organic ingredients

  • 99% GMO-free food

WHAT DO I MEAN BY MORE SUSTAINABLE?

Aside from plant-based food being more sustainable in general, Plant Power claims:

  • responsibly sourced food

  • only compostable packaging (which can be responsibly disposed of in compost bins in the restaurant)

  • tables made from renewable bamboo, and chairs from recycled aluminum

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD?

The Big Zac.

Two “beefy” patties. Three buns. Zac sauce. “Cheese”. Lettuce. Onions. And Pickles.

It’s juicy, filling, and won’t have you missing whatever the non-vegan version of it is.

Chicken Strips. The Buffalo ’66. Chicken Nuggets.

However you’re craving your chicken, they’re ready to make it for you. My household’s favorites are the “Chicken” Strips (juicy on the inside with a BEAUTIFUL crispy texture on the outside), the Buffalo ’66 Sandwich (also available as buffalo tenders or a wrap; tangy, spicy, and will fulfill your buffalo sauce dreams), and the “Chicken” Nuggets (smooth exterior texture with a crunch, will satisfy adults and children alike).

Gingerade Kombucha. Iconic Fries. Horchata Milkshake.

Plant Power offers a variety of drinks, from organic sodas to coffee to kombucha to milkshakes. Usually, my boyfriend and I opt for their seasonal milkshake of the month (our favorite so far being the piña colada one offered in August of this year). It’s always a treat for us to find out and try the next month’s flavor, like little surprise gifts throughout the year. But they’ve got great flavors that are offered throughout the year, as well (Horchata being the best!). Plant Power shakes are thick, creamy, and flavorful, but not overly sweet.

For the kombucha connoisseurs, I’m fairly certain that Plant Power serves GT’s Kombucha. It’s bubbly, refreshing, and comes in three flavors (strawberry, gingerade, and a seasonal offering).

INLAND EMPIRE: Iconic Fries are your plant-based Animal Fries from In-N-Out. A bed of fries topped with secret sauce (Zac sauce), “cheese” and grilled onions. Try them.

These were just a few items from the Plant Power menu. Be sure to check them out in Riverside or Redlands the next time you’re craving fast-food with a plant-based and eco-conscious spin!
